About Us
The mission of the Kennesaw State University Dance Company is to promote an interest in the art of dance within the company, the department, the student body, and the community through performance, community and campus outreach programs, and promotion of the Department of Dance.
1. Membership:
The KSU Dance Company is a pre-professional dance company that performs on campus, regionally and nationally. Students who major or minor in dance have the opportunity to audition at the beginning of each semester (fall/spring) to be a part of the company. However, an audition to be judged by the choreographer (may be student, advisor, or other person brought in), will be implemented in order to be chosen as a member of the company. Auditions will be held at the beginning of every semester. Those wishing to be members but not perform and those not passing the audition process will be able to perform other duties within the company. These duties include, but are not limited to, backstage production opportunities, stage management duties, and choreography.
2. Requirements for Membership:
Any member will have the ability to leave the group when it is deemed necessary, however, a commitment will be discussed at the beginning of each semester. It is not recommended that you join to perform unless you can easily make that commitment. If for any reason a performing member leaves (excluding a medical emergency), he/she will have to reimburse the company for any costumes or travel expenses already paid, and he/she will not be able to perform again with the company for two semesters (fall and spring). He/she will be eligible to audition for new dance pieces following these two semesters.
3. Meetings:
Meetings will be held on a weekly basis. Meetings will have the sole purpose of informing the members of the company of any and all company matters. Including but not limited to news, fundraisers, and events. Only the Advisor or the President, with the approval of the advisor, has power to call meetings.
4. Rehearsals:
Rehearsals will be held weekly or twice weekly and the schedule will be decided at the beginning of every semester following auditions. Every performing member is required to attend their rehearsal(s). When needed, including but not limited to when an on-campus show is approaching, certain non-performing members working backstage or with costumes will be required to be present at specific rehearsals.
